QUE PASA 9/22/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       This Friday, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, or as we lovingly call it, Mercy Day!  During our school Mass yesterday, we remembered our Sisters of Mercy, who founded our beloved St. Peter’s School and continue to care for and support our students, teachers, and families to this day.

       We are grateful for Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy; and for Mother Baptist Russell, who traveled from Ireland and established schools and hospitals in America.  We are grateful for the loving contributions of our Sisters of Mercy today—including Sister Marian Rose, Sister Lucy, Sister Pauline, Sister Paulina, and Sister Toni Lynn—all who help to guide us here at St. Peter’s School.  The sisters of Mercy are living examples to us for living out the mission of Mercy.  

       And what is mercy?  MERCY means to show love and compassion towards others; to forgive others and to be grateful to be forgiven by others; to show charity and generosity, especially to those in need; to have the courage to stand up for what’s right, especially for others who are afraid to stand up for themselves; to have faith in God.  MERCY means having an open heart and open mind.

       Let’s remember to be thankful for all the good works of the Sisters of Mercy, keep them in our prayers, and try our best to live out the mission of Mercy ourselves, not only at St. Peter’s School, but everywhere!

CALENDAR REMINDERS

This Monday, September 27, is a Minimum Dismissal Day for students, while teachers attend a meeting.  (Wednesday, September 29 is another usual Minimum Day.)

Friday, October 1, there is no school for students, while teachers attend an Archdiocesan Professional Development session.

DIMES FROM HEAVEN 

Our Student Council-sponsored fundraiser and class competition—“Dimes from Heaven”—continues until the end of this week!  Though the title says “dimes,” all monetary denominations will be accepted.  The classes that raise the highest amount by the end of this week (in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8) will win a class prize.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit victims of the northern California fires and future Student Council school events.  

Stay tuned to see our total amount raised, and to find out who the class winners will be!

If your child is not yet baptized and you would like him/her to receive the sacrament of Baptism, you may contact the St. Peter’s Parish Rectory at 415-282-1652.  Before receiving any other sacraments (such as Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation), your child must first be Baptized.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss the process before beginning this sacramental process, please feel free to contact the school office.

Our Weekly School Masses take place on Tuesday mornings at 8:30, unless otherwise noted. Dear Parents,

       As we begin to prepare for The Feast of Our Lady of Mercy coming up next week, we offer this prayer of Catherine McAuley, who founded the Sisters of Mercy:

We live our core value to UNITE as students wear their school uniform with pride.  Please remember that the complete daily uniform includes the plain white polo shirt, navy khaki pants or uniform skirt/jumper, green uniform sweatshirt, black or white socks, and solid black or solid white sneakers (tennis shoes).  

On FRIDAYS (unless there is a church service), students may wear the optional gray Aztecs hoodie, Aztecs sweatpants, and Aztecs T-shirt, with the usual uniform shoes.  (If your child does not have an Aztecs T-shirt, he/she should wear the uniform white polo with the sweats.)

QUE PASA 9/8/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

       This week marks the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, when thousands of people were killed or injured as a result of hate and ignorance.  Many felt fear and anxiety.  Yet in response, people showed compassion, unity, courage, and service as they helped those in need.

       Even though 9/11 happened 20 years ago, it brings to mind current political situations around the world (some of which are causing violence and mistrust), and how people may feel fear and anxiety due to issues related to race, the economy, and COVID-19.  This makes our work at St. Peter’s even more meaningful and important, as we guide children to act in unity with love and in faith.  Our KEYS—“You are Love” and “Service unites”—are  reminders that we can be positive, active examples to listen to other perspectives, act with kindness, and work towards justice. We want St. Peter’s School to be a safe place for students to grow and learn, where they can accomplish their goals with open hearts and open minds.  Let us continue our partnership as we reach for this goal, and continue our prayers for peace throughout our communities.

STAR ASSSESSMENTS

This week and next is Window #1 for STAR Testing.  Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade take a test in Early Literacy, while students in grades 2-8 take tests in Reading and Math.

STAR assessments is one data point that helps teachers know how they can best help students. It will not be part of the students’ grade, yet it will help teachers determine areas where students may need extra help or where students need to be further challenged.  Results of STAR assessments will be discussed at the first round of Parent-Teacher conferences in October.

Dear Parents,

     Happy September!  I feel that our school year is off to a strong start, thanks to all the members of our school family—teachers, staff, students, parents, and caregivers.  As a community, we are living our core values to Grow, Accomplish, Love, Serve, and Unite, and our KEYS (Knowledge feeds GROWTH; Every ACCOMPLISHMENT needs courage;  You are LOVE; and Service Unites) are daily reminders at school to help us live out our core values.  

     We also have our Student Learning Expectations-- “SLEs”—which further guide our students to live the Core Values.  The teachers and I will be regularly referencing our SLEs, which are listed below, posted throughout the school, and available on our school website, www.stpeterssf.org.

Welcome back to school! We had another unusual school year last year, but I hope that you and your loved ones were able to rest and spend quality time with each other over the summer, returning to school rejuvenated to learn and grow together!

For this new school year, let us pray:  

God of our past, our present and our future,
God of our dreams, our designs and our decisions,
Be love in us as we journey through this new school year.           

Be our inner vision, that we may see life through your eyes,

WELCOME TO ST. PETER’S SCHOOL!

We warmly welcome all new students and families to our school community!  In addition, we have new staff joining our school family. 

Our new 1st grade teacher is Ms. Christina Mincin.  Ms. Mincin is a native San Franciscan who attended St. Elizabeth School and SHCP, and is currently enrolled at USF!  In the past, she has worked at Caritas Creek at CYO Camp, St. Cecilia School, and NDV School.  

As our Mercy Corps Volunteer, we welcome Alivia Schmidt-Sanders, coming to us from Wisconsin.  Ms. Sanders has worked and volunteered in a number of different educational settings across the grades, and will be supporting St. Peter’s teachers, staff, and students in the classroom, schoolyard, and office.

Plus—we have a name update for one of our returning teachers.  Ms. Valdovinos, our Middle School Math teacher and 7th grade homeroom teacher, will now be using her married name—Mrs. Hanon!

As part of our Infection Mitigation protocols, we continue with our staggered drop-off and pick-up schedule.

DAILY morning drop-off times:

o   7:45-7:55 … Last Names A - F

o   7:55-8:05 … Last Names G - O

o   8:05-8:15 … Last Names P – Z

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays are regular dismissal days:

o   Grades K - 2 → 2:35

o   Grades 3 - 5 → 2:50

o   Grades 6 - 8 → 3:00

Wednesdays and other days as noted on the school calendar are Minimum Day dismissals:

o   Grades K - 2 → 12:15

o   Grades 3 - 5 → 12:30

o   Grades 6 - 8 → 12:40

If you have multiple children with different dismissal times, please come at the LATER time, and the younger child may wait in their classroom until picked up.

CAFETERIA and LUNCHES

Cafeteria service will begin on Thursday, August 26. 

School lunches are $3.00 for the entree, $0.75 for water, and $0.75 for SunChips. 

Students may order school lunches daily in class with CASH payments, or parents may place orders on the Cafeteria VENMO account @StPeters-Lunch.  Venmo lunch orders must be completed by 8:30 AM.  You may also order lunches ahead of time (for the month or the week) on Venmo.  Be sure to include your child’s name, grade, and items to be ordered.

*Note that the Cafeteria Venmo account is different from the Venmo school tuition/fees account.

Remember that school lunches may NOT be dropped off at the school office during the school day.  On regular dismissal days, students bring a lunch from home, or order a lunch from the cafeteria.  We also encourage students to bring a snack to eat during morning recess.

Dear Parents,

       Together, we made it to the last few days of school!  This school year was unusual as it presented us with extra challenges due to COVID-19, yet I am proud and grateful that we persevered and continued to learn and grow together.

       Your child progressed and developed socially, academically, and spiritually this year at St. Peter’s. Continue to support their growth over the summer. Seek out fun, new, and enriching experiences as a family.  Read books and magazines for fun.  Enjoy the outdoors safely. Pray together.  I promise to do the same with my own family!

Two of our teachers will be moving on from St. Peter’s School at the end of this school year.  We thank Mrs. Meenan (our 1st grade teacher) and Ms. Ayala (our long-term substitute in 1st grade while Mrs. Meenan was on maternity leave) for their dedication and love for the 1st grade students.  We are grateful for their service and wish them the best on their future endeavors!

RETURN OF LEARNING MATERIALS

All borrowed learning materials (Chromebooks, textbooks, and any other borrowed items as specified by your child’s teacher) are now overdue to be returned to school.  If you have not done so already, please stop by the school office to return all borrowed learning materials.  Failure to do so may result in a hold on registration for the 2021-2022 school year. 

SCHOOL OFFICE HOURS THIS SUMMER

During the summer, the school office will be open Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM.  If you need to make a payment, purchase a school sweatshirt or yearbook, or have a school-related question, you may call or drop-in the office during those hours.

*The office will be closed on Monday, July 5 in observance of Independence Day.

Dear Parents,

       The 8th graders are taking their final steps towards GRADUATION and CONFIRMATION!  We proudly share in their accomplishments as we—their families and teachers—have helped them to lay the foundation for their future.  We are especially proud of them as this school year presented many challenges and obstacles, yet they moved forward with open hearts and open minds.  Now, they are ready to take on their next steps in high school and receive the Holy Spirit this weekend!

Let us offer this prayer for our soon-to-be graduates:

 Loving God, we thank you for our graduates. You have blessed them during their years at St. Peter’s School with wisdom, friendships, and skills. Continue to challenge them to make this world a better place. Help them to look forward to their next steps in high school. Give them faith and a sense of purpose in their next steps. This Friday, June 4, there will be two church services in honor of our 8th graders.

In the morning, there will be a Baccalaureate Mass at 9:30 AM in church.  In the afternoon, there will an 8th grade prayer service at 4:30 PM in the church. IN-PERSON LEARNING FOR 2021-2022

Last week, the 2021-2022 school calendar was sent home and shared on Class Dojo, along with a notice was sent home informing families that for the 2021-2022 school year, it is the plan of St. Peter’s School that all students--absent a legitimate, documented need for isolation--will return to full-time, five days per week, in-person instruction, commencing in August 2021.  We realize that the pandemic has not come to an end, and we will continue to follow infection mitigation protocols, such as staggered morning intake and afternoon dismissal, separation of cohorts, and proper daily mask-wearing.  We depend on a partnership between home and school in order for infection mitigation protocols to be followed consistently.  

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school office as soon as possible.  Your continued support is appreciated as we move forward into the next school year.  

ATTENDANCE
Please notify your child’s teacher or phone the school office about any school-day absences.  If your child is not feeling well or is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in the COVID-19 REMINDERS section below), please do not send him/her to school, and provide a doctor’s clearance note as needed.  In-Person students who are not present at school (daily for grades K-5; rotating weeks for grades 6-8) will be marked as absent when they are not present in the school building.  

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Though we are approaching the end of the school year, we want to continue to UNITE and follow the uniform policy.

- Students in school are to wear the white polo shirt with the uniform sweatshirt, and either the uniform skirt or Navy khakis (not stretch pants or dark jeans).  

- Girls may wear solid black or white tights under their skirts.

- Uniform shoes are SOLID black or white tennis shoes/rubber-soled shoes.

- The Gray Aztecs sweats (hoodie, t-shirt, and sweatpants) may be worn on Fridays.  Plain gray sweats are not uniform sweats, and that is considered free dress attire.

RE-REGISTRATION PAYMENT FOR 2021-2022

The 2021-2022 YELLOW re-registration form is now past due, but you may still submit it to the office by dropping it off, mailing it in, or e-mailing a scanned copy to info@sanpedro.org. 

Also--the per-student re-registration payment is now due.  This non-refundable payment will secure your child's spot at St. Peter’s School for the 2021-2022 school year.  This year, each student is receiving a one-time pandemic assistance amount of $125, reducing the re-registration payment from $475 to $350 per student. You may submit a cash or check payment in the office, call the office to pay by credit/debit card, or pay via Venmo using @SPeters-School and remember to write your child’s name and “Registration Payment” in the comments section.

FREE BVCC SUMMER PROGRAM

BVCC, along with San Francisco’s Summer Together Program, is excited to offer a FREE Academic and Enrichment Summer Program for all St. Peter's students K-8th Grade.  Families who participate will receive a stipend at the end of the program.    

Students can attend one, two or all sessions, but no drop-ins are available.

Session 1: June 14 - July 2, 2021  

Session 2: July 6 - July 23, 2021 (7/5 Holiday)   

Session 3: July 26 - August 13, 2021

Hours:  8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (dismissal begins at 4:00 p.m.)

Applications will be available in the school office and after school with BVCC. For more information, please call Ms. Judy at 415-283-5545 or Ms. Rochelle at 415-713-0625.

Please notify your child’s teacher or phone the school office about any school-day absences.  If your child is not feeling well or is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in the COVID-19 REMINDERS section below), please do not send him/her to school, and provide a doctor’s clearance note as needed.  In-Person students who are not present at school (daily for grades K-5; rotating weeks for grades 6-8) will be marked as absent when they are not present in the school building. 

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Though we are approaching the end of the school year, we want to continue to UNITE and follow the uniform policy.

- Students in school are to wear the white polo shirt with the uniform sweatshirt, and either the uniform skirt or Navy khakis (not stretch pants or dark jeans).  

- Girls may wear solid black or white tights under their skirts.

- Uniform shoes are SOLID black or white tennis shoes/rubber-soled shoes.

- The Gray Aztecs sweats (hoodie, t-shirt, and sweatpants) may be worn on Fridays.  Plain gray sweats are not uniform sweats, and that is considered free dress attire.

Dear Parents,

       While we continue to pray to our Blessed Mother Mary during this month of May, we are reminded that without Mary and her courage, love, and faith in God, we would not have had our savior Jesus in our lives.  We are still in the Easter season, so we continue to remember Jesus’ sacrifice and the miracle of Jesus’ resurrection. 

        Tomorrow is the 40th day after Easter, and that means we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension—when Jesus rose to Heaven, body and soul.  In gratitude for and awe in Jesus’ glorious ascension, let us pray the prayer of the Ascension:

God our Father,
make us joyful
in the ascension of your Son Jesus Christ.
May we follow him into the new creation,
for his ascension is our glory and our hope.

STAR TESTING

Our final window for STAR Testing concludes this Friday.  These are standardized tests are mandated by the Archdiocese of San Francisco Department of Catholic Schools, assessing all students in Reading and Math.  If you have any questions about the test, please contact your child’s teacher.

Dear Parents,

       This Sunday, we celebrate Mother’s Day. We recognize the important role that mothers, aunts, grandmothers, and all mother-figures play in our lives!  We are thankful for the love they show us and sacrifices they make for us.  During this month of May, we also dedicate time to pray to our Blessed Mother Mary.  We look to Mary as an example of faith, love, and courage as she said YES to God!  Let us pray in thanksgiving for our Blessed Mother Mary and for all mother-figures in our lives.

Heavenly Father, 

We Praise You and we thank You for the gift of our mothers, through whom You give us life and through whom we experience love. We thank You for Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, a mother so gracious and a woman of example in motherhood for all of us.  May our prayer warm the hearts of all mothers. May they know that they are loved and precious. As noted on our school calendar, there is NO SCHOOL this Friday, May 7.  Faculty and staff will be attending an all-day retreat.  Classes will resume with a regular schedule on Monday, May 10.

       This past weekend and also this coming weekend, we celebrated/will be celebrating students’ First Communion—a great reminder for us all that we may continue to grow during the Easter season.  This past Sunday, which was the 4th Sunday of Easter, was also “Good Shepherd Sunday”—reminding us that through the joys and trials in our lives, God our Good Shepherd is with us!  While we experience renewed hope and faith, yet continue to face challenges such as societal injustices and pains of the pandemic, we can turn to our Good Shepherd for strength and healing.

       Let us offer this prayer together:

Almighty ever-living God,  Lead us to a share in the joys of heaven, so that the humble flock may reach where the brave Shepherd has gone before. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.  AMEN.

CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to our 28 First Communicants in the 3rd grade and older grades, who receive the Most Blessed Sacrament on Saturday, April 24!  They were scheduled to receive First Communion in the Spring of 2020, yet the COVID-19 pandemic put those plans on hold.  We are so excited for them that may now receive Jesus during the celebration of the Eucharist!

Thank you to our 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Gonzalez for preparing the students for this special day; to Mr. Gonzalez, Ms. Tonna, Mrs. Fresnoza, Mr. Romero, and Father Moises for their valuable assistance; and to all the students’ parents for their patience, understanding, and support.

PROGRESS REPORTS

Today, teachers will be sending home Trimester 3 progress reports for each student.  In-person students will receive paper copies to be signed by a parent and returned to the teacher.  Parents of Distance Learners will receive a digital copy through email or Class Dojo; please respond to your child’s teacher to verify that you have received the digital progress report.

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS

This week, students in grades 5, 6, and 7 who have chosen to run for Student Council office will be campaigning and sharing their campaign speeches virtually with the voting students in grades 3-7.  Running for Student Council is an opportunity for students to grow and try something new, while also learning and practicing student leadership skills and helping the school and our greater community.  We are proud of all the students who are running for office!  Stay tuned for the results next week.

QUE PASA 4/21/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

      Both this Saturday (April 24) and next Saturday (May 1), 51 students in our St. Peter’s School family will be receiving the sacrament of First Holy Communion!  Since last year’s First Communion Mass was postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, many of these students have waited over one year for this special event in their faith-lives!  We are grateful that we are able to safely proceed with this Eucharistic celebration this year. 

      Communion is a sacred time for a follower of Jesus. Each time we receive this most blessed sacrament, we should spend some reflective moments in self-examination to prepare for this beautiful time of remembrance.

      Let us keep our First Communicants in our prayers in their final days of Communion preparation, and use this time for ourselves, especially during this Easter Season, to remind us of the gift of salvation that Jesus gave to us all.

Lord Jesus,

Bless the children coming forward to receive Holy Communion for the first time.  May this be an initial step into a lifelong love of the Eucharist.  Give them a hunger for this sacred food so that they turn to you for comfort, guidance, and wisdom as they grow into full discipleship.  Thank you for their innocence and goodness.  May their hands, extended in anticipation of your Body and Blood, inspire ALL of us to cherish this sacred sacrament.  AMEN.

RE-REGISTRATION PAYMENT FOR 2021-2022

The 2021-2022 YELLOW re-registration form is now past due, but you may still submit it to the office by dropping it off, mailing it in, or e-mailing a scanned copy to info@sanpedro.org. 

Also--the per-student re-registration payment is now due.  This non-refundable payment will secure your child's spot at St. Peter’s School for the 2021-2022 school year.  This year, each student is receiving a one-time pandemic assistance amount of $125, reducing the re-registration payment from $475 to $350 per student. 

You may submit a cash or check payment in the office, call the office to pay by credit/debit card, or pay via Venmo using @SPeters-School and remember to write your child’s name and “Registration Payment” in the comments section.

ATTENDANCE
Please notify your child’s teacher or phone the school office about any school-day absences.  If your child is not feeling well or is exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms (as listed in the COVID-19 REMINDERS section below), please do not send him/her to school, and provide a doctor’s clearance note as needed.  In-Person students who are not present at school (daily for grades K-5; rotating weeks for grades 6-8) will be marked as absent when they are not present in the school building. 

SCHOOL UNIFORM

Though we are approaching the end of the school year, we want to continue to UNITE and follow the uniform policy.

- Students in school are to wear the white polo shirt with the uniform sweatshirt, and either the uniform skirt or Navy khakis (not stretch pants or dark jeans).  

- Girls may wear solid black or white tights under their skirts.

- Uniform shoes are SOLID black or white tennis shoes/rubber-soled shoes.

- The Gray Aztecs sweats (hoodie, t-shirt, and sweatpants) may be worn on Fridays.  Plain gray sweats are not uniform sweats, and that is considered free dress attire.

Dear Parents,

      I hope you had a blessed Easter with your family! We are now in the Easter season, but what does living the spirit of the Easter season mean? Here are three suggestions from, “Be Fearless, Be Joyful, Be Renewed: Living the Spirit of Easter” (www.loyolapress.com). I feel that as we continue to endure the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and societal injustices, these Easter reminders can also help us to keep our faith and hope strong, and act towards justice.

Live With Joy.  The Passion and Resurrection of Jesus teach us that suffering is transformed through faith in the Risen Christ. With this faith, we are able to hold on to an enduring sense of joy even in the midst of the sadness we experience from the loss of a loved one, a failure to achieve an important goal, or a setback during recovery from an illness.

Live Without Fear.  The Resurrection teaches us that God can overcome anything, even death. When the Risen Christ appears to the women at the tomb and later to his disciples, his first words are “Do not be afraid!” (Mt 28:5). These words speak to our hearts, helping us cope with fear. Our faith allows us to trust that God can overcome our most serious problems.

Live With New Eyes.  Just as the return of spring makes us feel like the whole world is new, the Resurrection of Jesus makes “all things new” (Rev. 21:5).  The Easter spirit is a spirit of renewal that enables us to show up at work with a positive attitude, to renew relationships that have been taken for granted, and to express appreciation and affection to those closest to us. It means to see the world through new eyes—God´s eyes!

The Resurrection reminds us to stay hopeful.  Let’s keep our hearts and minds open to live our core values this Easter season!

The application process for the Archdiocese Family Grant for the 2021-2022 school year is underway.  Please go on to mytads.com to complete the application. If you do not have your 2020 income tax or financial information ready. submit your 2019 income tax information or 2019 income information (Calworks, social security, food stamps, etc.).  You should upload or fax to Tads your 2020 income tax or 2020 financial information before the deadline. Please be sure you have completed the total Tads process by the Archdiocese deadline—April 15, 2021.

Dear Parents,

         Throughout Lent, the students have been learning and acting upon different ways that they can grow closer to God.  Now that we find ourselves in the middle of Holy Week, I hope you find that your journey through Lent has brought you and your family closer to God, and that together, even through these challenging times, we can keep our faith strong and share the love that God the Father has shown us.  Remember Jesus’ gift of the Eucharist on Holy Thursday, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for us on Good Friday so that our sins could be forgiven. Together, take time to say a prayer of thanksgiving for God’s love as we await Jesus’ resurrection on Easter. 

We pray:

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of everlasting life brought about by the resurrection of your son from the dead! This dark night is enlightened by a glimpse of the greatest mystery.  Our minds could never have conceived how you would save us, Lord, nor can we ever fully understand the depths of your love in choosing to do so.  We thank you for all that you have done for us throughout Lent. Now, throughout Easter, grant us the fullness of life. AMEN.

Today, March 31, we will have our usual Minimum Day dismissal for Faculty Meetings.  

Thursday, April 1 (Holy Thursday) is also a minimum Day dismissal for the start of Easter Vacation.  

Easter Vacation is from Friday, April 2 through Sunday, April 11.  Classes will resume with a regular schedule on Monday, April 12.

*San Francisco Department of Public Health discourages any non-essential travel during the pandemic.  However, if you will be traveling during the Easter break, please follow the 10-day quarantine upon your return home, and notify your child’s teacher and/or the school office.  Thank you for your cooperation!

BASIC FUND APPLICATIONS

New Applications:  The BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year are available online on www.basicfund.org. Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline TODAY--March 31, 2021.

Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families. The BASIC Fund has emailed families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage. Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline TODAY--March 31, 2021.

        We are fast approaching the beginning of Holy Week this coming Sunday, which is Palm Sunday.  At school, children have been preparing their hearts for Jesus’ death and resurrection by reflecting with their teachers, writing special prayers, learning about the Stations of the Cross, and attending virtual Mass. During your Lenten journey, I pray that you and your family have grown closer to God, and continue to strengthen your faith and service towards God during Holy Week and throughout the year.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we enter into Holy Week so that we might accompany you through your passion to your death. We have to remember that your story does not end in sadness. Rather, your story is the greatest love story that we could ever know. Holy Week gives us an opportunity to participate in that love story in a profound and personal way. We pray that you give us a special attentiveness during Holy Week, Lord. Shower us with your grace!  AMEN.

DROP-OFFS and PICK-UPS

We are grateful to have more students now participating in in-person learning in the school building.  However, with the increased number of students at school, the areas for morning drop-offs and pick-ups are becoming more congested.  To help alleviate the congestion and to keep everyone safe, please do not leave your car unattended in the white zones, and do your best to drop off your child at your assigned times:

Dear Parents,

        We are now in the fourth week of Lent!  How are you and your family growing closer to God? Reflect on what makes you unwell, not necessarily physically, but mentally, emotionally, spiritually. What unhealthy thing takes up the space in your heart, mind, and soul that belongs to God?  As the Psalm below says, let us remember that God is merciful and always present, especially in our times of need.

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The LORD is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.
The LORD is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The LORD lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.

NEXT MONDAY – MINIMUM DAY

As noted on our school calendar, please remember that next Monday—March 22—is a Minimum day for a teachers’ meeting. Students in grades K-2 are dismissed at 12:15; students in grades 3-5 are dismissed at 12:30; students in grades 6-8 are dismissed at 12:40.

DROP-OFFS and PICK-UPS

We are grateful to have more students now participating in in-person learning in the school building.  However, with the increased number of students at school, the areas for morning drop-offs and pick-ups are becoming more congested.  To help alleviate the congestion and to keep everyone safe, please do not leave your car unattended in the white zones, and do your best to drop off your child at your assigned times:

- 8:05 – 8:15 — Last names P-Z

For the afternoons, please come at the assigned pick-up times.  If you have more than one child to pick up, please come at the time of the older sibling. The younger sibling will wait in their classroom until they are called for pick-up.

QUE PASA 3/10/2021 (English)

Dear Parents,

        A year ago, we were wrapping up with our big school accreditation visit.  Our school community worked together to successfully earn the full 6-year accreditation term! At the same time, we were planning the closure of our school, and becoming more familiar of the effects of COVID-19. We made major adjustments in a very short period, and again, our school community banded together to overcome obstacles.

        As we continue our reflections during Lent, I think back on these events, and am grateful for our community—our teachers, staff, parents, students, and many others who have supported us through challenging times.  True to our Growth Mindset, we still are learning and living through difficulties, but we have learned and grown so much over the past year.  Moving forward during Lent, let us reflect on how we’ve maintained our open hearts and minds, and live out our KEYS to help others and help ourselves grow closer to God!

SPECIAL LENTEN ACTIVITIES

Congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd graders and older students who received the sacrament of First Reconciliation.  They are all one step closer to receiving Jesus at their First Communion.

We are also proud of our 7th graders, who are currently participating in a Virtual Retreat this entire week.  Though they are not able to attend their 5-day overnight Caritas Creek retreat at CYO camp, they are building community through activities with their camp leader via Zoom.  Keep up the good work, 7th graders!

THIS WEEK! - PARENT-TEACHER ZOOM CONFERENCES

We are now in the third and final trimester of the school year. Teachers are continuing to meet with parents for Parent-Teacher Zoom conferences today and tomorrow, and parents will receive their child’s report card at this time. Parent-Teacher conferences are mandatory for each student, as this is an important time for conversations regarding students’ progress.

**In order to accommodate more Parent-Teacher Conference appointment times, Tuesday, March 9; Wednesday, March 10; and Thursday, March 11 are all MINIMUM DAYS with early dismissal times!  (12:15/12:30/12:40 dismissals—according to grade level.) Friday, March 12 will return to the regular dismissal schedule.

QUE PASA 3/3/2021 (English)

Dear Parents,

        With all the different responsibilities we have as parents, we may easily feel overwhelmed and tired—especially with all the challenges and unknowns we face today with the COVID-19 pandemic.  Yet Lent can be a time for our renewal.  Let’s not forget how Jesus can be a source of strength and a loving comfort to us, and how we can follow his example to spread that love and be a positive example for our children. 

How true are Jesus’ words, which invite those who are tired and weary to come to Him to find rest! His arms outstretched on the cross show that no one is excluded from his love and his mercy, not even the greatest sinner: no one! -Pope Francis

Heavenly Father, your son’s death on the cross stands as a testament to your endless love and care for all of us. No one who seeks you out is excluded from your love, no matter what we have done. No one is cut off from your mercy, no matter how great our suffering. Give me the courage, Lord, to always look to Christ crucified as the promise of mercy for me. In this Lenten season, give me the confidence to trust that your love for me will never die. AMEN.

QUE PASA 2/24/2021 (ENGLISH)

Dear Parents,

        As parents, we strive to be role models of open hearts and open minds for our children.  At school—whether in person or on Zoom—we encourage each other to develop a growth mindset and live our St. Peter’s School KEYS so that we can open our hearts and minds.  Lent pushes us to dig out of our souls all the things that have clogged our hearts, the little sins that we clench in our fists, keeping us from opening our hands, hearts, and minds freely. God is offering to not only lift the burden from our shoulders, but also to help in rebalancing our load in the future. Tossing those small bad habits, pushing aside bitterness and resentment so that we might love God with our whole heart, and with all our strength.  Especially as we continue living through the challenges of the pandemic, we should make time to turn to God in prayer and for strength.

What is weighing you down? How might you prayerfully sort through what takes up room in your heart and mind? What habits and grudges can be cleared out, left behind?

God, take away what clutters our hearts, feed us with your Word, so that we might have the strength and freedom to love you with all our hearts, all our souls, all our being.

WEEKLY SCHOOL MASS

Yesterday, we were not able to celebrate virtual school mass because another service was planned in Church.

We will move forward with our weekly Tuesday Mass schedule next Tuesday, March 2. Students will participate in the 8:30 AM Mass at St. Peter’s Church.  Each week, ONE class will have the opportunity to attend Mass in the Church, while all the other classes and our distance learners participate virtually, through the livestream.  Families at home are all welcome to attend these weekly virtual school Mass celebrations.  To join any school Mass, click on this link on Tuesdays at 8:30 AM: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCF6mjdkFRHn0Ip0yuxdIOWw

As announced previously, Picture day for Middle School Cohort B, 4th graders, and all Distance Learning students is TODAY-- Wednesday, February 24.

For school pictures, students must be in COMPLETE UNIFORM--including their green school sweatshirt, white polo, and navy pants or uniform skirt.

Please arrive during your child’s designated time slot, according to last name.  You may check-in at the front office on Florida Street.  Only students will be allowed on campus for photos.  Parents will be required to wait outside or in their car, and once your child’s photo is taken, he/she will be supervised to return to you.

COVID-19 REMINDERS

We continue to practice infection mitigation protocols at school, and if your child is not feeling well, please do not send him/her to school unless cleared to do so.  Symptoms to watch for include:

·        Fever or Chills

·       Cough

·       Shortness of breath, rapid breathing, or difficulty breathing

·       Loss of taste or smell.  Children may complain that food “tastes bad” or “tastes funny”

·       Congested or runny nose

·       Sore throat

·       Headache

·       Muscle aches or body aches

·       Feeling unusually fatigued or tired

·       Diarrhea

·       Nausea or vomiting

COVID-19 Vaccine update: A website is now available so you can sign-up to get notifications regarding your eligibility to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.  (For Spanish, click on Español in the top right corner.)  Visit https://sf.gov/get-notified-when-youre-eligible-covid-19-vaccine and click on “Get Notified” to get started.

BASIC FUND APPLICATIONS

New Applications:  The BASIC Fund new application for the 2021-2022 School Year is available online on www.basicfund.org. Because this year has been so challenging, BASIC Fund is making a change and allowing applicants to provide their 2019 tax returns, if 2020 returns are not yet prepared. New siblings for current BASIC Fund students must request a link from BASIC Fund to apply for a new student.   The deadline is March 31, 2021

 Renewal Applications:  The BASIC Fund has decided to use the financial documentation that we have on file for the current year, to process the 2021-2022 renewals for our renewing families.  The BASIC Fund has emailed families a renewal application link for each family to update their information, i.e., address, telephone, etc. Families will still be able to update any financial documentation if they would like to be considered for a higher percentage.  Families that exceeded the financial guidelines but met the leeway for the 2020-2021 School Year and were awarded 25%, should submit recent financial information for consideration.  The BASIC Fund will determine if you qualify.  The deadline is March 31, 2021.

ARCHDIOCESE ELEMENTARY FAMILY GRANT

The application process for the Archdiocese Family Grant for the 2021-2022 school year has now begun.  Please go on to mytads.com to begin the application process. If you do not have ready your 2020 income tax or financial information. be sure you submit your 2019 income tax information or 2019 income information (Calworks, social security, food stamps, etc.).  You should upload or fax to Tads your 2020 income tax or 2020 financial information before the deadline. Please be sure you have completed the total Tads process by the Archdiocese deadline—April 15, 2021.

TECHNOLOGY FEE

As stated on the school supply list, all students (whether in-person or distance learning) must submit a $25 Technology Fee to help cover the costs of online programs and tech devices.  Payment may be submitted with cash or check, credit card payment over the phone, or through Venmo -- @SPeters-School.  (Please remember to write your child’s name and “Technology Fee” in the comments.)
